Testicular cancer research

The testes are the two small oval-shaped organs on either side of the penis that produce and store sperm. They also provide the main source of the hormone testosterone, which is responsible for male sexual characteristics. Around 2,100 men are diagnosed with testicular cancer in the UK every year, and the number of cases has increased significantly over recent decades.

But the good news is that survival rates have increased dramatically. More than nine out of ten men with the disease are now cured. This is partly due to a drug called cisplatin, which Cancer Research UK helped to develop. But testicular cancer still causes around 70 deaths each year in the UK.
