Improving treatment for multiple myeloma

Professor Gareth Morgan, based at The Institute of Cancer Research, is a renowned expert in multiple myeloma. This type of cancer starts from a particular type of immune cell found in the bone marrow, called a plasma cell.

Professor Morgan is running a clinical trial testing two different drug combinations for treating myeloma. The trial, called MYELOMA XI, will find out whether a combination of drugs including lenalidomide is more effective at controlling the cancer and causes fewer side effects than the current standard treatment.

The results of the trial could bring significant benefits to people with myeloma, and change the way that patients are treated in the future.
