Improving treatment for head and neck cancers
Richard Shaw is a surgeon specialising in the treatment of head and neck cancers. He's running a number of important clinical trials aiming to improve the way that these diseases are treated.
One trial, called HOPON, is testing whether giving patients high-pressure oxygen treatment (also known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy) can help to prevent jaw bone damage following radiotherapy for head and neck cancer.
Mr Shaw is planning another trial called TITAN, which will find out if patients with head and neck cancer do better when they are given a chemotherapy treatment called TPF before they have surgery.
You can read more about the TITAN and HOPON trials on CancerHelp UK.
