Our research in Wrexham

A doctor and patientCancer Research UK funds research at Cardiff University’s Wrexham campus, and also funds clinical trials involving people from the area.

The clinical trials unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital is part of the Wales Cancer Trials Network (WCTN), which is jointly funded by Cancer Research UK and the National Assembly for Wales. Since the WCTN’s creation, the number of patients in Wales taking part in clinical trials has dramatically increased.

Looking at delays in cancer diagnosis

Dr Richard Neal and his team at the University of Wales College of Medicine in Wrexham are exploring the role of GPs in the diagnosis and management of cancer. In particular, they are developing and testing a way of finding out how long it takes patients to be diagnosed from when they first notice a symptom.
