Brain and central nervous system tumours - UK mortality statistics

This page presents brain and central nervous system cancer mortality statistics including by age and sex and trends over time up to 2008. Top line mortality for 2009 only can be found on the Data table: Cancer cases and deaths in the UK.  We currently only report mortality data for malignant brain and central nervous system tumours only. The ICD code for brain and other central nervous system cancers is ICD9 191-192 and ICD10 C70-72.

By age and sex

In 2008, in the UK there were 3,674 deaths from brain and other central nervous system cancers, which accounted for just over 2% of all cancer deaths. The annual number of deaths in the UK and its constituent countries together with the rates for the year 2008 are shown in Table 2.11-4.
