Brain and central nervous system tumours - UK mortality statistics
This page presents brain and central nervous system cancer mortality statistics including by age and sex and trends over time up to 2008. Top line mortality for 2009 only can be found on the Data table: Cancer cases and deaths in the UK. We currently only report mortality data for malignant brain and central nervous system tumours only. The ICD code for brain and other central nervous system cancers is ICD9 191-192 and ICD10 C70-72.
Brain and central nervous system cancers mortality:
In 2008, in the UK there were 3,674 deaths from brain and other central nervous system cancers, which accounted for just over 2% of all cancer deaths. The annual number of deaths in the UK and its constituent countries together with the rates for the year 2008 are shown in Table 2.11-4.
The distribution of deaths from brain and central nervous system tumours by age for males and females separately are shown in Figure 2.11-4.
The age-standardised mortality rates for brain and central nervous system tumours between 1971 and 2008 for the UK are shown in Figure 2.2.
