Body awareness

Body awareness and cancer

If you know what is normal for your body, you are more likely to notice changes that might be early signs of cancer.

There are some changes that you should report to your GP immediately.

These changes probably won’t be caused by cancer. But if you do have cancer, the earlier it is diagnosed, the more successful treatment is likely to be.

What should I look out for?

Cancers that are often found by people checking their own bodies include skin, breast and testicular cancer.

In this section you will find information about how to check yourself for these cancers. Click on the links below to take you to the pages relevant to you:

Our Open Up to Mouth Cancer campaign encouarges people to be aware of the warning signs of mouth cancer, and to know what's normal for them. Our Open Up to Mouth Cancer website has more information on the warning signs of mouth cancer.

What about other cancers?

You can find information about early detection of other cancers in our Signs and symptoms of cancer section.

If you are worried about any change in your body then go to see your GP
