Breathe competition

In partnership with Channel 4's 4Talent, and funded by the Department of Health, Cancer Research UK launched the Breathe competition. The competition for 13-18 year olds resulted in the production of three short viral films for the internet.

Over 1,500 entries were received. The three winners have now had their ideas turned into reality and the films are currently making their impact on the internet. The winners and their films are:

  • A young girl coughing up a lung after a night of partying - Sophie King, aged 14;
  • A girl who turns into a wrinkled, unattractive old woman during a party - Oliver Sabine, aged 14;
  • A young man who pays to die in a slaughter house - Naomi Hodgson, aged 17.

Jean King, Cancer Research UK's director of tobacco control, said: "We’re very excited about this competition - teenagers are precisely the 'hard-to-reach' group with whom anti-smoking campaigns are struggling to connect.”
