This page tells you how to receive automatic updates when new stories are posted in our News section.
'RSS' news feeds send you alerts when webpages have been updated, without you having to visit the website itself. 'RSS' stands for Really Simple Syndication.
To use these feeds, you need to use a special piece of software called an 'RSS reader’ (see below). These are programmes that automatically check selected websites for updated items, such as news headlines or podcasts.
You may notice RSS feeds being used more frequently in the future for a range of purposes. For instance, the latest version of Microsoft Windows, set for release in 2007, comes with built-in feed-reading software, as do a number of mobile phones currently available in shops.
Cancer Research UK currently offers three different News feeds:
You can see all of these feeds to the right of your screen. Click on the orange buton to access the feed. If you need to, you can copy the web-address (URL) of the feed from that page into your browser or RSS reader (see below).
We also offer other content updates via RSS:
If you don’t already have one, first you will need a RSS reader. There are many RSS reader programmes available, including the below:
Windows
Mac OSX
Web
Web Browser with built-in RSS reader
Once you have a news reader you can begin subscribing to news feeds by looking for orange RSS buttons. You can click on the button to view a RSS feed directly, or drag the button or URL of the feed onto an area of the reader to subscribe.
