Alternative cancer therapy
Dr Lesley Walker, Director of Cancer Information at Cancer Research UK, says:
"Cancer patients are very vulnerable to hype about new treatments, many of which may not hold up to full scientific scrutiny or may never have been tested through a clinical trial. It would be good to see clear publicly-available evidence that these treatments work, so that they can be thoroughly evaluated by experts.
"There is a confusing amount of information about cancer treatment and so called 'alternative' cancer cures available on the Internet. Many of these have no clinical or scientific basis and so it is vitally important that patients seek advice from their doctors before embarking on any alternative therapy.
"Our CancerHelp UK website only offers patients information that has been extensively checked by a wide variety of specialists with experience of treating the disease."
