Our policy positions

In this section, you can find out about Cancer Research UK's position on the key policy issues affecting cancer and cancer research.

These issues are organised into five themes, covering different areas of policy. They are:

Future of cancer services
This section covers overall cancer policy and our views on the future of cancer services.

Cancer Services and treatments
This section covers access to treatment including drug treatment, surgery and radiotherapy.

Patient Information
This section highlights the importance of accurate information for patients about the treatments they are receiving and the choices they are asked to make.

Cancer prevention and public health policy
This section covers tobacco control, food policy and obesity prevention, physical activity policy and UV exposure.

Cancer treatment and clinical policy
This section covers topics such as access to treatment, clinical trials, staff training, manpower and capacity issues, and the future of genetics for cancer treatment.

Research governance, regulation and support policy
This section covers government support for science, the use of patient data in medical research and support for clinical research in the NHS.

Charity law, regulation and finance policy
This section covers issues such as charity law reform, unclaimed assets, tax relief and bogus fundraising.

Health and cancer inequalities policy
This section covers inequalities in cancer incidence and outcomes, and in experience of services, as they are experienced by different groups and communities.

Symptom awareness and early diagnosis
This section covers topics to address problems with late diagnosis of cancer, including waiting times, early diagnosis and improving symptom awareness

Consultation responses
Cancer Research UK also frequently responds to consultations on policy matters that are issued by the European Commission, the UK Government and its agencies, Parliament and others. Consultations an opportunity for the government or other agencies to find out people’s views and receive their comments and suggestions on a subject. This section contains our consultation responses, which are available to download in pdf format.
