The Department of Health consulted on proposals to introduce picture warnings on the back of cigarette and rolled tobacco packs in summer 2006.
Cancer Research UK responded to this consultation stating strong support for the introduction of picture warnings on pack as soon as possible. International evidence suggests that graphic picture warnings inform people of the risks associated with smoking and can help encourage people to quit smoking.
Our response also recommends that the chosen images are regularly reviewed, as we know that the impact of visual warning messages decreases over time.
