Following a report in September 2005 by the School Meals? Review Panel, entitled ‘Turning the Tables: Transforming School Food - A report on the development and implementation of nutritional standards for school lunches’, the Department for Education and Skills launched a consultation, inviting feedback from interested parties.
The consultation invited responses on proposals to revise the standards of school lunches for children.
Cancer Research UK is supportive of the core recommendations the report makes- to introduce strict food and nutrient-based standards for all food provided in both primary and secondary schools at lunchtime.
We believe that a whole-school approach towards healthy eating is crucial if we are to encourage young people to adopt healthier lifestyles.
