In May 2006, Kenneth Macintosh MSP expressed concerns about the link between cosmetic sunbed use and the rising incidence of skin cancer in Scotland. He produced a report, proposing the Regulation of Sunbed Parlours Bill, which was consulted on in May 2006.
The report suggested that tighter controls could have a positive impact on skin cancer prevention efforts.
Cancer Research UK responded to the consultation, and highlighted support for Kenneth Macintosh MSP’s proposal that cosmetic sunbed premises must gain a license to operate from a local authority.
