Unclaimed Assets within the Financial System

Name: Submission from the Unclaimed Assets Charity Coalition to the Treasury Select Committee’s Inquiry into Unclaimed Assets within the Financial System
Source: Treasury Select Committee
Date: February 2007

In January 2007, The Treasury Select Committee announced that they were carrying out an inquiry into Unclaimed assets within the financial system. The Committee had particular interested in receiving written evidence on the definition, identification and collection of unclaimed assets as well as the distribution and use of unclaimed assets and the potential relevance of schemes in other countries for putting unclaimed assets to productive use. The Unclaimed Assets Charity Coalition, of which Cancer Research UK is a member, represents a group of 51 UK charities who are owners of unclaimed assets in the form of lost legacy income.

Cancer Research UK wrote this submission on behalf of the Unclaimed Assets Charity Coalition, in which we set out our proposals to try to fulfil the wishes of our supporters by ensuring that money pledged to a charity reaches that charity.
