Working with patients - Cardiff 2010
In October 2010 Cancer Research UK held a discussion day with patients and carers in Cardiff, to help inform our policy work on cancer diagnosis.
Participants were asked to consider their individual experiences of diagnosis, stage by stage, and identify ‘highs and lows’.
Participants were also asked to identify what they thought might be done to improve diagnosis, and in particular the experience of other patients, in the future.
Specifically, in relation to early diagnosis, we set out to better understand:
- Patients’ view on diagnosis—how it works and what it is like for patients;
- Barriers to fast and accurate diagnosis, including patient delay, GP delay and system delay
- Areas for potential change to improve patient experience at diagnosis.
