Intergroups in the European Parliament

Intergroups are similar to All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) in the UK. They are informal groups of MEPs from across all political groups and EU Member States who share an interest in a particular topic.

There are currently two types of Intergroups

  1. a formal Intergroup which must follow internal European Parliamentary rules and
  2. an informal group which has more flexibility in deciding when and where it can meet.

There are a number of both groups who focus on cancer or research-related issues. They provide Cancer Research UK with an opportunity to present its work and to brief leading EU policy makers on issues related to cancer research and cancer health policy.
