Pull the Plug on Sunbeds¿ Event at Bishop Gore Comprehensive in Swansea
On Friday the 6th March Cancer Research UK, Tenovus and the BMA launched the first in a series of four events to warn school children about the dangers of sunbed use.
The campaign was launched at Bishop Gore Comprehensive in Swansea and will visit other schools in Wales, particularly where there are a high number of unsupervised coin operated tanning salons.
Helen Crawford, 30, from Penllergaer in Swansea, who was diagnosed with skin cancer spoke to the Year 10 youngsters along with Dr Sharon Blackford, a dermatologist working in the city. Alun Cairns AM and Behan Jenkins AM were also in attendance.
Cancer Research UK is calling for the Government to prohibit use of sunbeds by under 18 year olds, provide evidence-based health information in sunbed salons and prohibit unsupervised sunbed salons. More information is available from our policy statement.
