Adam Afriyie MP, Conservative Shadow Science and Innovation Minister, visits Cancer Research UK's London Research Institute

Adam Afriyie MP, Conservative Shadow Science and Innovation Minister, has visited Cancer Research UK's London Research Institute (LRI) to learn more about how world class scientists are working to beat the disease. He met with Harpal Kumar, Chief Executive of Cancer Research UK, and Doctor Richard Treisman, Director of the LRI, to hear about groundbreaking research being undertaken.
The LRI specialises in research aimed at understanding how normal cells in the body become cancers. This knowledge provides the foundation for developing new and more effective ways of preventing and treating cancer - a disease that affects one in three people in the UK at some stage in their lives.
Cancer Research UK carries out work on all aspects of cancer in more than 35 towns and cities across the UK. The charity employs its own scientists as well as supporting grant-funded researchers in UK universities, medical schools and institutes.
