Two leading politicians have visited Cancer Research Institutes and Centres to find out more about how our scientists are working to beat cancer.

Conservative Shadow Health Minister with responsibility for cancer services Mark Simmonds MP visited our new Birmingham Cancer Centre which will become a leading centre for clinical trials. The Birmingham Centre is part of the Cancer Research UK Centres initiative, which will create core centres of excellence in cancer through partnerships at the local and national level to deliver world-class research, improved patient care and greater local engagement. The 'virtual' Centre is a partnership between the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, the University of Birmingham and Cancer Research UK.

Liberal Democrats Shadow Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills Stephen Williams MP visited the Cancer Research UK flagship laboratory the London Research Institute where he saw how Cancer Research UK scientists are undertaking groundbreaking research to beat cancer. He visited a lab and heard more about Cancer Research UK’s involvement with the UK Centre for Medical Research and Innovation (UKCMRI).
