The National Awareness and Early Diagnosis Initiative (NAEDI)
The National Awareness and Early Diagnosis Initiative - NAEDI - is a public sector/third sector partnership between the Department of Health, National Cancer Action Team, and Cancer Research UK. It is led by Mike Richards, National Cancer Director, and Harpal Kumar, chief executive of Cancer Research UK.
The role of NAEDI is to co-ordinate and provide support to activities and research that promote the earlier diagnosis of cancer.
NAEDI activity is organised into four work streams:
- Achieving early presentation by public and patients
- Optimising clinical practice and systems
- Improving GP access to diagnostics
- Research, evaluation and monitoring
This practical planning guide has been developed in conjunction with the National Social Marketing Centre. It is intended to help develop and deliver effective solutions for influencing the behaviour of people who may have symptoms of cancer.
The resource draws on evolving best practice in social marketing, brings together useful information relevant to cancer and builds on the many lessons that have been learned over the past few years.
It will be useful for those developing or commissioning a social marketing intervention, or those who want to understand more about social marketing and what it can do to support early diagnosis of cancer.
