Breast cancer in women over 70

Local NHS teams are running pilot campaigns to raise awareness of breast cancer in women over 70. The Be Clear on Cancer campaign tells women over 70 that if they see any change to their nipples, skin or shape of their breasts they should see their doctor straightaway.
This section provides details of where the local Be Clear on Cancer pilot campaigns are happening; downloadable briefing sheets and information specifically for GPs and practice teams; and useful tools and resources.
There are seven local pilot campaigns focussing on breast cancer in women over 70. These cover 20 PCTs in Lancashire and South Cumbria, South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw, Berkshire East and West, Brent and Harrow, South East London, Medway and Brighton and Hove.
If you would like more information on these projects or to get in touch with the relevant NHS team in your area, please email projectsupport@cancer.org.uk.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer has created two briefing sheets, one for the wider practice team and another for GPs.
- GP briefing sheet. This summarises all you need to know about this pilot campaign. It's an electronic version (PDF, 864KB), with links to further information on Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s website, which is print friendly if you want to print it out and keep it on your desk. Please do pass these on to colleagues as appropriate so they can get up to date on the campaign too.
- Practice team briefing sheet. We know that it’s the whole of the practice team that will help to make Be Clear on Cancer a success, so Breakthrough Breast Cancer have developed a briefing sheet for the wider practice team too. Again, it's an electronic version (PDF, 852KB) which is print friendly too. Please do share both the GP and team briefing sheets with your colleagues.
