The National Awareness and Early Diagnosis Initiative (NAEDI)
The National Awareness and Early Diagnosis Initiative - NAEDI - was first announced in the Cancer Reform Strategy and is a public sector/third sector partnership led by Mike Richards, National Cancer Director, and Harpal Kumar, chief executive of Cancer Research UK.
The role of NAEDI is to co-ordinate and provide support to activities that promote the earlier diagnosis of cancer.
NAEDI works across nine diverse areas of activity:
- Measuring public awareness of cancer - Interested in using the Cancer Awareness Measure?
- Promoting earlier presentation
- Reducing delays in primary care
- Developing key messages (generic and cancer-specific)
- Reviewing the evidence base
- Making international comparisons to further understand reasons for survival differences
- New research
- Diagnostics, including access to existing diagnostics and research and evaluation of novel diagnostic techniques
- Health economics
