Using information to support awareness and early diagnosis

This page shows how cancer networks have used information to develop their NAEDI work. You can read articles about their experiences and download examples of baseline assessments and reports. There is also useful information about the data available in the report 'How to reduce excess mortality from cancer in areas with the worst health and highest levels of deprivation'.

Reports

NEW Mount Vernon Cancer Network have used the CAM 'pre- and post-' in Hertfordshire, Luton and South Bedfordshire, to investigate the impact of an intervention they developed. The intervention consisted of 1) a leaflet in letter in some areas, and 2) a leaflet alone in others.

Primary care audits

The cancer diagnosis in primary care audit is a partnership between NCAT/Department of Health and the Royal College of General Practitioners. Eighteen Cancer Networks used the Cancer Diagnosis Audit Tool in 2009/10 – at least 2,600 GPs in more than 750 practices were involved.  The audits have been driving service development locally.

NCIN will be bringing together the data to build up a national picture of cancer diagnosis in primary care and a report is anticipated early 2011.

A narrative synthesis of reports from Cancer Networks who participated in the audit is available on the Durham University website
