Events relevant to awareness and earlier diagnosis of cancer

This page details a number of events that may be of interest to health professionals, commissioners and policymakers working in awareness and earlier diagnosis of cancer.

Sharing and Learning Set Programme for the 2010/11 centrally-funded projects

NCAT is funding a bespoke Sharing and Learning Set Programme for the 59 centrally-funded 2010/11 projects focussing on breast, bowel and lung cancer. The sets will be for at least one participant from each of the 109 PCTs that have received project funding for local projects together with colleagues from Cancer Networks and other PCTs involved in similar work.

Each of the Sharing and Learning Sets will meet twice and will include presentations from highly experienced clinical leads involved in awareness and early diagnosis work. The programme will be facilitated by an organisation called Frontline and is based on a similar programme that has just been successfully completed for Cancer Networks.

Project leads have already received letters asking for the names of participants but in the meantime if you would like to find out more about the programme, including dates and venues, please contact Sally Williams from Frontline at sally.williams@frontlinemc.com or 07738 543 402.

The first NAEDI Research conference took place 17th/18th February in London. It featured presentations from leading researchers in the fields of cancer awareness, screening, epidemiology and early diagnosis and included updates from some of the projects funded through the first NAEDI call. Presentations from the day are available to download.

A workshop for local projects raising awareness of lung cancer as part of DH/NCAT 2010/11 activity was held in London on December 15th. The event was organised to bring together representatives of the projects, to share opportunities and challenges and discuss the metrics projects are to collect data on. It is hoped that the event will help to build a strong foundation which will maximise the potential of this work, and its sustainability, going forwards. Presentations and highlights from the event can be found on the lung cancer workshop page.
