Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) - A to Z
This page links to content about Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP).
FAP is a relatively rare disease that causes lots of benign polyps (small growths that are not cancerous) to grow in the bowel. It is caused by inheriting a fault in a gene called APC (adenomatous polyposis coli) from one parent.
People with FAP have an increased risk of getting bowel cancer, as the polyps can develop into cancer over time.
