Thyroid cancer
Thyroid cancer is not very common in the UK. Around 1,750 people are diagnosed with the disease each year and survival rates are good for most types of thyroid cancer.
People who have had certain kinds of thyroid disease are more at risk of getting thyroid cancer. Having radiotherapy treatment to the neck at a young age also increases the risk of the disease.
Cancer Research UK is funding research into different aspects of thyroid cancer, including finding out more about the genes that play a role in the disease and improving treatments.
