Vitamin D - A to Z
This page links to content about vitamin D.
Sunlight is the main source of vitamin D, which is required to maintain strong bones. It is possible to stay safe in the sun and get all the vitamin D your body needs.
The amount of sun exposure needed to make enough vitamin D changes from person to person and is affected by things like skin type, time of day and time of year. But most people in the UK only need to spend a short amount of time in the sun to make enough vitamin D. This is always less than the amount of time that causes reddening or burning.
